More Like Super Bowl of Guacamole, amirite?
This is definitely not a recipe blog.
But, I do like to cook. And I like excuses to make lots of food. So every year for the Super Bowl I make way too much food for four people and do literally anything other than watch the game while it plays on my TV.
So here’s the things I made this year.
Guacamole
Always a must. This has been our go-to recipe for like 20 years now. Simple but with good flavor. A little bit spicy, a little bit acidic.
And can I just say how great Bob Blumer is? The Surreal Gourmet was such a fun show. Several of his recipes are favorites of ours. His books are great, too. I just found out he has a few I haven’t read, so I’m looking forward to adding some more favorites to our routine.
Wings
This is pretty much the one time each year that I make wings. I like wings, but they’re a bit of trouble, and not everybody in the family likes bone-in chicken.
This year I made Crispy Baked Chicken Wings with Lemon-Pepper Sauce. The flavor was good. They turned out crispier than I expected, but I still would have preferred an actual breading. I used the recipe with both bone-in wings and tenders. The tenders weren’t bad, but probably next year I’ll just use pre-breaded tenders.
Pizza
When I heard the Lions were in the playoffs I started rooting for them so I would have an excuse to make Detroit-style pizza for the Super Bowl. They lost, but I decided to make the pizza anyway. I used this Serious Eats recipe that always turns out great. You can’t get brick cheese around here so I used a mixture of mozzarella and muenster. I also added some hot Italian sausage, which gave it a nice spiciness.
So that was my Super Bowl menu this year. And that was my first blog post in a very long time.
